Default Drumfest

Just talking out loud so - if this has been talked about and pushed aside just let me know and then I will shut up.

You know I hear about these places having eggfests events but how come nobody is having any drumfests? Seems like more bbq enthusiasts have drums in Michigan than eggs.

I can probably think of 10 different drum heads, so I am sure Bubba could name a few dozen in the state. That seems like a good event to be sponsored by the glbbqa.

Am i out in left field on this one?

I guess im out in left field on this one.
I own and egg but not a drum.

Does this mean we should have a Klose fest?
Joking here. doesnt matter what we cook on, its all about the cook who creates the best tasting food regardless of what it was cooked on.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with an egg and know they are fantastic cookers based on the pics and reviews I have read. My observation is that there are a lot of folks that love cooking on their drum and it would be an innovative event that might increase membership and support our local BBQ.

I would love to go to a Klose event....

Rich I wish there were more events in Michigan.
Seems I havent been able to attend other events as of late but will try and do better in the future.
A drum event would be awesome, as well as an eggfest, klosefest or langfest.

Rich,
Good idea and good topic. Something the BOD and especially the events committee has been discussing as of lately to come up with ideas attractive to members that will generate some involvement.
A bit premature here but there has been discussion about developing a "area representative" or similar in different areas of the state that would help develop different events in their assigned areas and report back to the events committee.
There are tons of events in Michigan we don't even know about that happen as part of local festivals, fairs, etc..
Started working this weekend on the events calendar for 2010.
There are at least 7 KCBS Sanctioned events tentatively scheduled, and we are working with people in Oscoda, Alpena, Interlochen, Detroit, Ontario, Canton, and Wayne County on local events.
Your idea of a drumfest is excellent. Perhaps you would like to take on the task of doing some preliminary work such as seeing what type of interest you can generate, a location, etc.. Could even twist Bubba's arm into doing a drum build too.

Thanks for the new idea.

Scott

Thanks for the reply Scott!

I would like to assist the association and event committee in anyway possible but I don't think I know enough people in this new world of Q for me to generate any interest.

I only know three people that enjoy making Q and I only met them in the last two months.

Rich,
you'll be surprised once you start asking around. Civic organizations like Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, VFW, Optimists, etc.. usually have fundraisers and like I said before, most municipalities have some sort of festival or event each year that BBQ can become a part of, even if its a simple rib cook. I specialize in rib cooks .

In my opinion, this wouldn't have to be an official event sponsored by a city or included as part of an actual festival. A "Drum Head" Bash would suffice. Maybe at someones house, maybe get a tent, BYO beverages, BYO drum, ect....Make it like a meet and greet or swap meet type thing. Just a one day, all day thing.
Two or three of those around the state sponsored by the GLBBQA would get a lot of friends of friends involved. Do that for a year or two and see what the response is, then go for the GLBBQA Drum Comp.
Just thinking out loud, I guess.

That's my opinion, worth price charged.
