A little more progress. Reinforced the lower portion of the chute with 1/4" stainless plate. Takes a lot more time to cut and fit than I expected. Stainless is really tough.
![]() ![]() Do I need add another 1/4" plate around the base? As it is it is 3/8" thick. Stainless takes a lot of heat to weld. I switched over to the mig using .035 wire for the bigger welds. Any thoughts?

Finished up the ash box and joined with the chute and transfer tube. Finished welding up the 1/4" stainless steel.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am thinking that if I put a 1/4" carbon steel plate over the 1/4" stainless that it will help hold the shape. I have been warned that the stainless will warp big time. Does anyone know if this will work?
