Default Diet restrictions and sauce

My wife is changing her diet, and so I need to try to adapt BBQ to meet her needs. Has anyone had luck using salt and/or (brown) sugar alternatives in their sauce? I am asking the same question in the rub thread about BBQ rub.

Thanks for your responses.
