I went on the Flushing Harvest Festival website and didn't see any mention of the rib cookoff. Are they having one this Fall? I really enjoyed hanging with some of you last year.

That is not the Flushing Rib Burn....
The date for the Rib Burn will be October 2nd. The website will be www.flushingchamber.com
However, as I said the application is not yet ready, the Chamber is trying to make a buck a bone work and I am trying to talk them out of that... I will also post the app here when it is ready....

I had a phone call with one of the committee members last night. The format is going to be the same as the last 2 years. I should have the application out later this week. Everything should be the same, price and all. We are actually thinking of a price incentive for early payers, so I will let all know as soon as I get that info...

Here is the app, I am sorry for the delay, please keep in mind that the Chamber of Commerce is organizing this event, I am just helping, and I will not be at this event as it is the same time as the Royal, however I still would like to see a good turnout. It is a fun event and we (the city of Flushing) is celebrating our 175th year as a City this year at this event, so there will be a lot of events and things going on. The pie auction will be going on again as well, always a favorite event!!
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Just a quick update, there is a guaranteed $500.00 prize pool and the Chamber is looking for more.
So far there is one entry - Thanks Richtee!!
This is a fun event and although I will not be able to attend my hometown contest, for those that are hanging around there will be plenty of things to do and it is fun to hang out.
One other thing - This is a Red Cup Event. You will be on the streets so just be smart. The cops or the organizers will not be looking for stuff, but please dont be silly...

And about a half of year after the 11th grade.
But mostly as the dish washer.

I will tell ya, but a story comes with it.I get there around 8:30 and there is Dereks team is all set up, and another team is on the other side of him. He asked earlier in the week if he could camp next to us, so I set up next to him,and rich next to me, all this in the rain. This guy comes by to inspect the meat, and asks us how many teams are coming. ( I know communication is so tough) I had heard the day before there was 6 paid teams. A gal by the name of Susan told me this on the phone.
So its 9:30 turn in is at 3pm so all the teams except 1 has their ribs on their cookers, and some lady comes by and asks me why didn't I come to the office and sign in. I replied I didn't know I had to. I just set up about where we did for the previous 2 years. Now she is pissed I am in two spaces.I am going by painted lines on the curb, and she is trying to point out the faded chalked lines from the night before. Did I mention it was raining, like since 9 pm the night before. I have just about had it and told her so. Then she has the nerve to say there was 9 teams coming and there may be a space issue. I am looking at 5 teams cooking, on the same street that had 10 last year, and I see at least 4 open spots. I tell her I am not moving, but I may just leave. Then she asks me if we even have our meat inspected. I told her we did( by two different guys now), and I had sh&t to do, so good by. I was about to let the redhead loose on her. I mentioned to the meat inspector" Walker" That she didn't know what she was doing, and he rolled his eyes and nodded. It appears to me that she is indeed lost, and that Mike Terry did most of the work in the previous two years.
Her childish attitude was comical at best, but embarrassing for those who did so much work to make the festival come together.
so the answer is 5 teams Ron. All this crap for 5 frickin teams. The money was a guaranteed pot, and we all appreciate those who sponsored this rib burn prize.I surely missed some of the teams from previous years. Beale st, RSS, Lawdogs, giggly pig, bavarian smoke, Extreme, and others. I know most of them teams are at the Royal, and I wish I was too.I think I may avoid this event in the future. That chick put a bad taste in my mouth and I am not even that hard to get along with.
I would say I am sorry for the rambling on, but I'm not.:D

You just told the truth.. And I don't think it will happen again (hopefully anyway) I have enjoyed that fun little diddy for the last couple years.
Dan,
First off let me apologize for her behavior. I will talk to the Executive Director at the Chamber and show him this thread if it is ok with you. I am sorry that you had to experience this in my hometown.

You didn't do anything wrong Mike. Like I said, it just proves she shouldn't be in charge of 5 teams let alone 10-12. I think she has her hands full. Its apparent that you did most of the leg work for her before.
Yes you can show this thread. If I post it, its public! I'm not as angry as the thread comes off to sound,it just kinda through a whole different feel into the festivities first thing in the morning. Hopefully we can have this event next year on a weekend that more of our GLBBQA teams can participate.
Thanks for your continued involvement in your community, and congrats on your teams first Royal adventure. I am truly jealous.;)
