Got an email from Ron Cates from the MIS event and he says he has not received any entries from GLBBQA teams. Not sure this is accurate so could anyone who has sent money in please post and those that are for sure going post also so I can get him an accurate count.

Better yet, ask him to send you a list of teams that have sent money in and you can identify which ones are a GLBBQA team, how would he know ?

All I know is that I asked a simple question about what type of surface we would be cooking on ... two days ago ... and I haven't heard anything back yet.

Something about all this strikes me as "odd"; perhaps it is just me. I just know that if I was promoting a contest like this, I would be doing a lot more communicating with those that have shown an interest in participating.

Ive been out there a few times to see the various races. From what I remember, all the sponsors and "things to do and see" were on the pavement. I would guess the cooking will be somewhere on the grass close by.

Extreme Roasters is in. Say what you will, but the man is a PROMOTER (think Don King) it is his responsibility to try and twist a few arms to drum up teams. Believe me when you cash one of his checks you will have a whole new respect for SMOKE ON THE WATER.:cool:

I would love to get into this contest but the wife and I just don't have the funds right now to do that but next year might be different I've got me 2 sponsors talking about coming on board because a couple of weeks ago we took 2nd place and peoples choice at a rib contest. We got 2 nice big trophies................

Hope to be posting some pics of that soon.................

Hey don't write it off yet, as a group we need to work together more to make sure these kind of events can take place and become successful. These guys are professionals, will work with them in regards to lowering the prize fee to attract more teams at a lower entry fee. $15,000.00 prize pool ain't a bad idea.

I had a great conversation yesterday with Matt Vann from Whiskey Bent BBQ. If you do a Cost Benefit Analysis (I know my geekiness is coming out). The odds of re-couping your money or some of your money are much greater at this contest than any contest that any of us will cook this year.
They are paying out to 14th place and that will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-$100 for 14th PLACE!!
Just imagine if you got 4 - 14th place calls that almost pays for your entry fee. IF you got 4 14th place calls at any other event you are going home empty handed...
Or, Just imaging getting 4 - 10th place calls then you are talking about maybe paying for your entry fee and covering your meat.

I think if some folks would just sit down and do some figuring, this is going to be the best event to hear your name called.

There are 24 teams right now only 10 teams are not going to hear their name called for each category...

Oh great, but where do chicken scores fall into that analysis?
Read the other day on the SOTW site that 14th place pays $85.00 unless it changes due to total team entries.
Did Matt give you any chicken gizzard top secret techniques??

Paperwork to make this a State Championship has been submitted. The Governors office has offered to help get it signed by next Friday, however they make no promises...

Here in Illinois... If you included a "donation" to their re-election campaign fund... You could probably get a key to the state as well... :D

I thought about that :D But our Governor is Term Limited so she is a lame duck right now... I am hoping that will encourage her to sign as many things that are put in front of her!!

Always thought it was pretty smug of Blago to put his name on top of all the toll plazas around Chicago. Sure didn't take long for those to come down. Hopefully they saved them, so that Blago can beat them into license plates in Joliet!:D

I was just on the MIS web Site and they have the site posted on the Fan Plaza map. If its where I think it is its a large area and blacktop. Its more like down by the corner of turn 4.........................
