So I got my drum sanded and did a burn. I am about to start drilling some holes. Anyone got a suggestion on the best tool to use for the holes. I was thinging either a step bit or a hole bit. Problem is I have not been able to locate a hole bit in the right size that was made for anything but wood and the cheapest I have found for a step bit is $50.

Any suggestions are welcome...my plan is to finish the drum by this weekend so I can get some smoking done.

I just used a plain old 1" drill bit. Made a pilot hole, then ran the 1" bit sort of fast and it just blew right through. I think Lowes has single piece hole saws that aren't too expensive.

Thanks for the info Eaton, I though $50 was a little steep to pay for drilling a few holes.

Ten bucks for a 1" hole saw, be careful and it will cut many holes for you!
