Man am I psyched!! I have been looking for awhile at the chance to get something mobile for competitions and future catering and I found a nice one!! I made a trip down to Louisville, KY yesterday where I picked up a gently used DPP Fat 50 (found on The Smoke Ring). Has the Chrome, Propane Log Lighter, Grill Adder, Steamer, Dual Propane Burners, and 2 storage bins. Drove back today, cleaned her up a bit and now have 2 Boston Butts on with some Baby Back Ribs coming on in the morning...I will take some pics when it gets light outside!! I am ready for Auburn Hills!!

Well, I put out some crowd pleasin' bbq today (even if it was only family and neighbors!). The "Pappy" of Pappy Medley's BBQ (my dad) is in town from Owensboro, KY for the long weekend. I cooked 2 Boston Butts and 3 Racks of Baby Backs on the new DPP Fat 50-this thing is a beast!!
I haven't worked with propane assist/log lighters before, so that was an all new experience...Didn't use the steameron this cook...I really didn't use charcoal (only at the beginning). It did use a lot of wood (probably 1.5 bags of the Hickory Woods small logs they sell at Bass Pro-but I guess that is not too bad considering I didn't got through a couple bags of charcoal). Guess I need to find some bigger logs to keep this thing humming along...Didn't get much sleep, but I learned a lot about this cooker's personality.
All in all, it was a promising first outing-the food had a less smokey taste than what I am used to with my 20"x40" Lyfe Tyme...What are the KCBS rules on propane assist for log lighting? I think it is legal, but how long can you leave the propane on to light the logs?
Hopefully, this link works for some pics...

You can use it to light the logs, but once the meat goes on, the propane must be disconnected.
BTW nice pit............

I see the pics I posted as thumbnails...How do you insert the large image into the message (like BBQ Bubba's Trailer Pics)?
Just trying to make sure I am posting these pics the easiest way for people to see...All in good fun!!

If you "link" them from a site like Photobucket or Imagehut you will get the larger images. I have the forum set for only thumbnails for pics because of the size of pics can get really big. That is why we recommend using the Photbucket method... I can help you with that if you need it.

Oh man, I'm lucky to find the little door on the camera to open to take the little card thingy out that has the pic's on it. I'm still trying to figure out how to post the Dayton, Ohio pictures. Now we have to go to photobucket!!!!!
Jason, nice rig!
I am really good at mugshots though.

I have a big practice cook on the 19th/20th (nothing like waiting til the last minute) coming up for the Auburn Hills comp, but haven't cooked too much lately...With a 3 month old, a 2 year old, and 3 1/2 year old, there is not a lot of free time!!
I did walk into Restaurant Depot the other day in Troy looking for a good brisket knife-looks like they have pretty good prices-how are their briskets? They were on sale for $1.69/lb-the cheapest I have seen around here for packer briskets...Then I realized I couldn't buy anything without a tax id...I guess Pappy Medley's BBQ needs an LLC soon so I can reap the benefits!! Looks like their butts/ribs are the same IBC brand as what Sam's Club has...$.94/lb by the case for butts...Baby Backs were not on sale, but were $3.29/lb...

I would like to park one of those in my backyard and not because I have any intentions on competing with it but it looks cool as hell!
If you ever see one of those for sale in Michigan let me know.

Thanks for the compliments!! I haven't seen any of these in Michigan...This one came used from Louisville, which is about as far north as I have seen one on the bbq forums...Every time I look out into the garage I can see the 2 shiny chrome smokestacks!! My wife catches me staring at it every once in awhile and rolls her eyes...

That is awesome.
I showed my wife the photos you have on photo bucket, and she was remarking on how big everything looked especially with the picture of the couple racks of ribs and two pork butts.
I told her to be prepared if she finds one in our backyard.:D
