Hi, my name is Tim and I have been smoking for about 2 years on my CharGriller with SFB. Only this year I have begun to get serious about bbq. I have been grilling for many many years on the Weber line of products. I would really like to get a WSM, but that will have to wait until I can fit it in my budget.

I still have alot to learn before I would even consider any comps.

This is an expensive hobby, but well worth it when I can sink my teeth into some juicy ribs, chicken, brisket, etc.

I plan on attending an event nearby suburban Detroit (if there are any that close to me) so I can meet other bbqers.

Welcome aboard Tim...
It's not so much the expensive hobby that should scare you away, it's all the creative excuses you have to give your boss to miss work on a competition Friday.

Actually I work Mon-Thur 10 hrs/day with Fridays off from May-August every summer. So when I am ready to compete, it'll be a piece of cake....easy as pie....

Welcome aboard Tim...by the way, do you know how to cook chicken?

I am not sure how to answer this. On one level, yes I know how to cook chicken. On another level, do I know how to cook chicken in the same league as you competitors - not yet.

This was my latest (and best) attempt at chicken:

So why do you ask?

Tim,
pay no attention to the man behind the curtain asking about chicken.

Welcome Tim! Like you I am new to the group. There does seem to be a plentiful source of good natured ribbing (pun intended) that goes on here. I have not been to any comps yet and only have met these guys via the forum. I hope they don't get too upset when they find out I am judging at Auburn Hills.
