Doing some Chicks this weekend!

Hey question to you veteran smokers?

I was watching a rerun of Man vs Food the other night, and one gentleman said he soaks his hickory wood chips in dark vinegar.

What do you think?

Derek,
lots of debates on soaking vs. not soaking. Makes more sense to believe if you put wet wood on a fire source you will get "bad" smoke. Sure, you may smell the Beam but doubt it will last long enough to really permeate the meat.
Best bet is to get some chips, soak them in a bucket of Beam or whatever, dump them out, let them dry and then use them later on. Kind of like Jack Daniels barrels.

So being fresh back from Rod Gray's class, I have come to realize that I was making things about a 100 times harder on myself then I needed to. He cook on both a stick burner and a pellet burner and he kept it simple!

Save the Jack or Jim for after the competition. Rich (volunteered) and I will do a shot with you at awards to celebrate no missed turn ins and no DALs.

As the others have said do not soak your wood... You can buy the Jack Daniels (a superior product by the way) chips already if you are looking for that kind of taste...

Don't let them fool you, they get a empty bottle of some super duper special expensive, only 5 bottles of stuff made a year that you have to freeze solid in a block of ice, fill it full of some old gas from their lawnmower leftover from last year and put it in shot glasses for everyone to drink at 9:22 AM.

You know, you dip your chicken in tar to get all the feathers off and light it on fire. Now that's the original BBQ...
