I am new to the association and need some help. A group of us out here in Milford are considering a new comp to be held in early October. I have downloaded the KCBS forms to apply for sanctioning. Is there additional sanctioning that needs to be done through our state association? Are there any of you out there (Sparta and Auburn Hills) that would be willing to give me advice on doing this. We want to make this an annual event at a time of the year that apparently noone is competing at. I only found events in August and September. Any help will be much appreciated.

Bill;
If you read the KCBS instructions closely you will see that there is alot that needs to be done to get a first year event sanctioned. Our Assn does not sanction events but does lend a helping hand to event organizers in regards to information to become a successful event.
If you would PM me your email address, since I am the VP of the Assn and on the Events committee, I will email you with some info and advice.
FYI,
In Michigan, There are currently 1 event in June, 2 in July, 3 in August and 3 in September that I am aware of so far.
Also, I work and Live in Holly so maybe we could meet in person.
Thanks
Scott

Bill, the biggest obstacle is a prize money and October has the American Royal the first weekend of October and The Jack is the 3rd weekend so those may take some teams away (well the Jack only one but...).

I agree October will be tough, we need a Michigan event in late May or early June.

With all of the attention that the Spring thaw out event is getting it seems like an early event in May could easily get enough teams.

You have to remember that every sanctioned contest and non-sanctioned contest we have in Michigan is connected with some sort of festival or event. Most large successful events are held during the summer months due to weather conditions.
However, a business could sponsor a event that could go off any time of the year.
Even Flushing knows if they have a winter event to have it indoors and cook Chili!

The weather in May and early June is not condusive to good outside napping.
Stable temps lead to better naps which in turn keeps me from getting all Pis**d off at you when you get all smart alecky.

All I can say is if they are having a comp in mid May at the Wisconsin Dells there is no reason we cant have a comp in May, Early June in Michigan...

Why not get the Eagle contest sanctioned and make it a GLBBQA event and fundraiser.
