I want to invite my good friends here to attend and participate in an event I am working on. Most of you here already know me and my passion for fishing and my newest passion for BBQ. Some of you also know about my personal battle with stage 4 cancer. Long story short, last fall , about 140 of my very bestest friends got together and had a fundraiser for me. It was a " roast" type of deal and alot of fun, and the money raised went to very good use to help me and my family with a ton of medical bills. So enough about that, I will never ever forget it.
After this event, I felt overcome with emotion of course, and inspired to return the favor to my good friends. Some were BBQ folks, others, Fishing related friends, and others , hunters, family and long time friends. I couldn't help but notice the genuine curiousity that the fishing guys and the BBQ guys shared about their passions. So here is the deal.
I am organizing an event so these two groups of folks can share and impress on each other their love for their crafts. On May 22nd and 23rd we will be having this event in the St Joseph area. We are going to rent a venue that can support campers, smoker rigs, and a good sized group of people who want to have fun. This venue is gonna cost me $600, and we will all pay for it together. I want to invite anyone here who wants to participate. My hope is to have folks bring their talents and smokers and some food, in exchange for a days trip on lake michigan to catch some trout and salmon. The captains will supply the gear and gas and expertise, in exchange for a grand bbq feast that some of us will create while others are out fishing. On the second day, those who stayed behind on the first day, will go and catch fish and enjoy the day, while those who went on day one, stay behind and cook.
This is what has been posted at 2 other sites, TQJ and Smoked - Meat. I have friends at all three sites, so I am anouncing it to everyone.
Yes. Its May 22/23 and it looks like right now we have 8 boats and captains excited about sharing our great fishing resources with my good friends from the BBQ world. Thats 15-16 rides at least. So start checking you calendars, and getting plans made for an event that is sure to make you glad you participated. Let me know on this thread or by PM if you want to come and cook one day for a chance to fish the other. It may work out were some of the crews can fish both days, we'll see how it goes and how many are comming.
I hope to secure the venue in the next couple of weeks, so that means I will be spending $600 bucks of my own money with the hope that we get 30 -40 folks to attend and contribute so I can re-coop most of that money. Those of you that are close enough to drive, can bring some smoking rigs, those who fly in or travel long distances, you can help with cooking or gathering foods. I really want to make this work out as a total effort from everyone involved, yet not a burden to any. I hope you know what I mean by that. It pleases me to no end to organize this event and see it come together. I have no doubt that it could become an annual affair once the word gets out to each participating group.
So, stay tuned, chime in if you coming, and let me know how many are coming with you to fish. These captains are very good anglers and accomplished captains. I have competed against most of then in the past in fishing tournaments. I think there is only 1-2 of the boats that are under 20 ft long, the rest are 21-28 fters. I can assure you you will be in good hands.
So come and play with me and my good west michigan buddies, and lets reward their hard work and effort with some awesome Q, great times, and new friendships.
I would love to see some folks from here enjoy this event.
Sorry this post was so long.
