I just received this email from Roger Gren about the event and it looks like it is still on for this Fall.

I don't know if I have a recipe good enough to share but I will definitely buy one to support the community.

Folks,

Thank you for your participation last year. As a new event we learned a
lot and had a great time, even with the oops that occurred. And yes we
are willing to do it again, only better.

We are in the process of getting the prize money up to 5 or 6k this year
and our goal is 25+ teams. One way we are trying to raise the prize money
is a community cook book. Put together by www.morriscookbooks.com. Our
goal is to raise enough money to cover the prize money. The way it works
is we submit recipes and Morris Cook Books who prints, binds and delivers
the books to us. We then sell them. We are looking for 300+ recipes.
You or your team will recieve credit for your recipe with either you name,
your team name or both printed in the books and the index.

We are not looking for your prize wining recipe, just any recipe you have
that you like. The types of recipes we are looking for are, Appetizer &
beverages, soups & salads, vegetables & side dishes, main dishes, BBQ,
breads & rolls, desserts, cookies & candy and this & that type recipes.

From what I know so far Ford Alison has submitted some and so have I. The
Sparta Community has been encouraged to submit their recipes. I am asking
you, if you would, please submit one or more of your recipes to get the
BBQ contest up and running.

We will be selling the cookbooks both on line at www.morriscookbooks.com
and throughout the Sparta area for under $15.00 starting in April 2010.
Its a nice three ring binder with hard cover. This way next year, 2011,
we can publish a supplement to the original and continue the growth. So
please get you recipes in to me or email them to ddadirector@spartami.org.

I have also attached the BBQ entry form, Vender entry form and Judging
form to this email. Please fill them out and return them as soon as
possible. We will be in the KCBS newspaper shortly. You are getting this
advance notice because you were here last year and we wanted to give you
the first shot to be involved.

The only changes we are doing this year is the vender fee. It is now at
$200.00 and we are limiting the BBQ venders to two (2), if you are also a
competitor the fee is $75.00 to vend. In other words, if your are entered
as a competitor in the BBQ contest and want to vend anything the vending
fee is $75.00 in addition to the compitition fee. If you just want to
vend the fee is $200.00. We would like to get other venders such as fried
vegatable, snow cones, elephant ears and the like. So put out the word if
you would.

Also, I am no longer at Unity Secuiry Inc or ASAP Investigations. So if
you need or want to contact me, my new contact information is; email;
grensid@iserv.net or cell 616-263-6063.

I hope to hear from you shortly.

Sincerly,
Roger M. Gren
BBQ Chairperson

Rich,
Mike told me yesterday that he got the info that the Sparta event is a go. The application that is attached is from 2009, are they planning the same weekend in September this year? (24th-25th)
If so it fits in with Silver lake being Sept 10-11, Oscoda and St. Joseph events both on the weekend of the 17-18 and then Sparta on the 24-25.
Looks like September will be a fun month!!

Not sure! I just grabbed the documents from the email. I sent Roger an email asking him.

What are the events in Oscoda and St. Joseph?
