Got the ok from the Board last night to look into putting together another fun cook in April.
BBQBull has gotten us penciled in with the Eagle people to reserve the park for April 23 and 24.
We will need someone from the general membership to volunteer to spearhead the event, specifically to organize an event committee and run it from beginning to end, including site clean-up.
The floor is open, who wants to volunteer?

As Scott mentions, we are going to need some help on this one. So if anyone wants to get involved please let us know. The Fun Cook is a great time, the Friday night potluck is becoming an event all by itself!!
The GLBBQA wants to bring events like this to our members as this is OUR event. We are not partnering with any other organization or group, it is just the GLBBQA and our friends and family. But we need help to do these events. So if anyone is interested in helping we would appreciate it. If you have never been a part of a KCBS BBQ Comp this is the perfect event to get your feet wet and learn firsthand how they are ran.

Hey...I was thinking- how many attending have kids... teens prolly- that could be bribed to go for cleanup/help-out duties? I'd be willing to help by kicking in $5 or $10 for a "labor fund". Teens can usually be bought ;{)

I won't be bringing any kids to rent out but I would be willing to pitch in $5 - $10 to assist.

Bull and all others,
THe Eagle event was on our agenda at last nights BOD meeting. Obviously we are backing the event and are strongly encouraging participation from the general membership to assist in making the event happen and be successful. In order to do that at least one person from the general membership is needed to volunteer to head the event. They will need to plan and organize each step and hopefully obtain assistance from other association members and delegate duties as needed.
Unfortunately, should no one volunteer as a chairperson, it could likely mean that the event will not happen.
Thanks
Scott

Just to expand on Scott's post. What we need is someone to act as a real contest organizer would act at a KCBS contest. The first year B-Mac and I did it with assistance from Theresa, last year Walt, Theresa, and B-Mac did a fantastic job. This year B-Mac has again offered to help but he cannot be the point person. So that is what we need, one or two members who are willing to act as an organizer. Of course the BOD will help in any way we can.
I also need to mention that the Eagle Fun cook would not be possible without BBQBULLs help so I want to thank him for his efforts!!

I got a PM from Jerry, he said that he will volunteer to Co-chair the Eagle cook. He and his wife are coming next weekend and hopefully we can get some serious talk started.

I would be willing to help in some capacity if possible. I did pretty good on the raffle last year :D therefore I will not participate in it this year as a courtesy, but would be willing to sell tickets and help with the drawing if we get any prizes!

I'll second sfisch comment, but since I'm the new guy I'll just sit here and smile.
As for helping out, I'm game and I might be able to get some additional help. I do side work for Deaf CAN! (Deaf Consumer Advocacy Network). They have a youth program that I'm sure I could get a few broke and hungry teens to help. Also, what about talking to the OCC culinary arts program. Since it's a fun event, maybe the teams offer to take a student under their wing in trade for help in post event duties...
Also, I'd be willing to be the point person for the event, but I don't know what the board would think of that since I'm fresh off the boat. If someone wants to ping me about this please let me know.
Thanks,
Tom
