One of the goals that the assn board wanted to achieve is to have a CBJ class during the winter months. The events committee has begun the process but need to know how much interest and participation GLBBQA members are willing to take.
Specifically, KCBS requires a minimum of 24 participants to conduct the class. How many of our current members would be interested in attending a CBJ class on February 20, 2010. That is a date obtained from the KCBS rep.
Cost for non-KCBS members will be around $75.00, KCBS members $40.00.
The location of the class is unknown at this time but will be determined by where we can find a place that conforms to the KCBS requirements as well as how much it will cost to rent.
We would most likely post on other forums that we are trying to have this class and maybe get some participation from q'ers in other states but want it open to our members first.
Please answer asap.
Thanks
Scott

I am in if it is in SE Michigan...Is the GLBBQA having another cooking class this winter? Seems like if there was a cooking class, that would be a good chance to advertise a KCBS judging class. Or vice versa.

Count me in. What are the venue requirements?

Preferably it would be something centrally located to the current membership.
There is a difference of opinion in regards to what centrally located is but to answer your question the venue isn't as much of a concern as the actual facility since it has to have a kitchen facility to prep food and what the cost to rent it is , so if you know of any possibilities give me a PM.

Here are my thoughts on a Judging class. I would gamble good money on the majority of our members (75%) are already CBJ's. The majority of the attendees are more than likely going to be non-GLBBQA members who will see the posting in the Bullsheet or the other forums that a lot of us frequent.
Now on to the Centrally located issue. When I refer to Centrally Located, I am referring to the middle of the state. The reason being is that we have members and non-members who attend our events...

OK,
getting back on track here in regards to the CBJ class itself.
Firstly, yesterdays post was meant to be that of an informational post with APPROXIMATE costs for the class because I would bet that would be one of the first questions asked and like it said the cost of the rental facility is not included.
Lou has PM'd me a rental hall from a wildlife conservation club in Hamburg. He is getting some prices.
I am asking that each of you who may belong to a church, civic organization like a VFW, Masons Lodge, hunt club etc. that has a facility with a full kitchen or knows of someone who belongs to that type of organization to forward to me the location and cost of the rental.
The class size is supposed to be a minimum of 24 so that gives an idea on how much seating we would need. Again, the kitchen is a must also.
Please PM the info to me as soon as possible. We want to make this a quality event.
Thanks
Scott

Anyone else with possibilities can PM me with the info.

Good morning all,
Mike has advised that he currently has 33 paid spots for the CBJ Class on Feb 20 with 5-7 more saying checks are in the mail.
We will need some "Volunteer" help to help with the food, boxes, and in the kitchen during the class.
As of right now, Mike and B-Mac are the only two "Volunteers". Bruce B, Bubba and I are taking the class.
Who else can come help us out?
Thanks
