View Full Version : Trailer Stench

A couple of months ago I let the in laws borrow my 6 x 12 covered trailer to move some crap out of their basement and move it to one of their friends house for a garage sale.
I went and got the trailer a few weeks ago and found a nasty stench inside. I found out from the in laws that they got my trailer stuck and when they were yanking it out a dozen or so perfume bottles smashed and soaked in to the floor.
I have had the back ramp and side door open on and off for the past two weeks and the odor is not going away.
Anyone want to share some wisdom so that I can get rid of this stench without replacing the plywood floor?

Either BLEACH or Ammonia. Maybe vinegar to. Heck go to the local sporting goods and get some the scent killer they use for deer hunting.

What about making a baking soda paste with some water and smuck it on the floor and let it set. Maybe it will pull some of the odor out and you can sweep the dried soda away or vacuum it off.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

The stench was only part of it. I needed the trailer to pick up this Klose and when I went to hook it up on Friday evening I found that one of the prongs on the light harness was broke off (no brake lights), the stench from the perfume, trim broke off on the inside, and hole in one of the inside panels. The wife has been told that nobody including family will be using it anymore.
I let my father use my snowmobile trailer a couple of years ago to haul up some gear to the UP and he said he didn't realize that the wheel jack had to fold up. Yup he drove it all the way up there and back with the wheel jack banging against the road.
Both issues cost less than $30 but the money isn't the point.

An idea might be to go rent one of those ionizer gizmos they use to remove smoke smell from homes, etc. You might have to rip out any carpeting tho... that sux.

Yesterday I layed down a layer of baking soda and then newspaper over that. If that doesn't fix it I think I am going to try crushed up charcoal. I will let you know what works.

Just leave the Klose in there, that should eventually overpower any other smell in the trailer. Works in my garage. Also a good way to keep your wife out of your stuff.:D

The wife told me last night that it was mentioned that the garage sale was over and it would be nice to have a trailer to haul it all to Goodwill. She was able to divert the issue by telling them we have the trailer full of drywall, lumber and a vanity (remodeling the bathroom).
But I am thinking about storing it in the trailer this winter to open some space in the garage.
