As members attending the 2010 GLBBQA annual membership meeting (details to follow), what would you like to see as an attraction to go along with the meeting?
Some type of smoker demo? BGE or Traeger or maybe Backwoods? ;)
Products for sale?
Scott Fischer to say a speech?
Any ideas?

How about a demo of four different smokers cooking the four different KCBS meats.
Products for sale is always a great thing since you can save on shipping.

Right now we are working on trying to get some of the bigger name Smoker/Grill reps to come in and have them on display and give us a quick talk on each of them. I dont think we will actually be able to do a demo of a smoker cooking as we will be in a Hotel/meeting room some where in Mid Michigan... Also the plan is to have vendor space as well. So you will be able to do a little shopping

Have members or the GLBBQA donate BBQ supplies and then raffle them off as door prizes or for a small fee for a ticket. The free raffles tend to increase participation and the small fee ones are nice to raise some money.

Rich, we do solicit various BBQ/Outdoor related businesses for donations for door prizes. We also purchase a larger item and raffle it off. Last year we raffled off a 26" Weber Kettle and the year before a WSM. Any suggestions for this coming year are appreciated...

Rich,
yeah, we have done that at the past meetings, one year a WSM, last year a big Weber Kettle as well as some smaller donated items.

Whoa, me and Mike posted at the same time!

Well to get this back on track, what would you like to see ? I want to make this year's event more than just a boring meeting, I would like to have some vendors there, so if you want to buy something you can, I also would like to have some product demonstrations, now I know most of the items that can be invented have been, but is there a certain product that you would like to see ? That is the kind of input that we are looking for.

What if we opened it up to the public to bring new memebers in. There might be bbq people out there that don't know about the Great lakes Association. And then we could have the meeting before or after. We could put it into the local papers, facebook, and the website.

Good Idea, I have no objection to having the meeting open to the public. The only concern that I might have is the raffles. How would you guys feel about a non-member winning a raffle ??

Maybe 1/2 off raffle tickets for newly signed members?
Or, a price break on tickets for members in good standing?
Just something that'd be an incentive for others to join.
Just thinking outside the firebox, I guess.
Rich Parker

Leave the raffle for members only and then if non members won't to participate in the raffle they need to sign up. That sounds like an incentive for non members to join. Especially if it is a Red Wings drum.
