Less. :)

I'll put that on the list to ask.
They are also looking for some good celebrity judges, I thought it best that even though everyone knows me I shouldn't judge.

so i take it this is NOT a peoples choice judging event this time? will a turkey fryer work for a gas burner, or does it need to be a gas hot plate?

sfisch

Last year they had 4 judges if I remember correctly, was not a peoples choice contest.
Also, since it is inside this year I'm sure there won't be 12 X 12 sites, more like 8' where you could put a 6' table set up along the walls and then down the middle of the fire hall.
Going to work on getting some supplemental electricity and gas/propane burners have been approved.

Hey Tom that was Flushing, that will be changed this coming year, the guy that came in 2nd place last year asked me to change it so it was more fair. I am not sure what we will come up with but it will be more fair this coming year, in Flushing...

Tom,
I don't think a turkey fryer will work inside of the building, don't think the FD would approve it, the gas hot plates though she said have been okayed.

Mike,
Kim says they may have a sponsor lined up for the whole $500.00.

sending in money today! i have been looking at gas (butane) hot plates. most were around 7,500 btu. found a couple to be 10,000 btu. remembered that i have a dual burner propane coleman camp stove in the basement, and that has dual 10,000 btu burners - so nothing to buy this time! (bringing electric hot plate as back up)

I have a great chili recipe, but I don't think I have the right equipment to use. I have a turkey fryer propane base which has already been shot down. I have a crock pot, but this doesn't help in browning meat. I dont think I can cook outside, correct? Otherwise I could bring my Fat 50 with the burners...What am I supposed to use to cook??

Hey Jason, some of the people will bring the propane/butane hot plates (that is best description I can come up with). They are little burners. You can get them at Harbor Frieght...

jason, i am bringing my camp stove and my electric hot plate as a back up. you can use my electric hot plate as long as enough electric is available. (1500 watt) its up to you.. just offering to get more of us out there....

Jason,
never thought about anyone wanting to cook outside, let me make a call today and see what I can find out. I would suggest coming up with something to cook inside, last year it was 19 degress and the wind was blowing sideways!!

I can use an electric skillet to cook the meat, right? Then a crockpot after that?? I think I can get my hands on an electric skillet...and we have a crockpot...Let me know if that stuff is approved and I will send in my entry...

That's it, I can't resist I'm in.

I assume that any propane burner that runs off the 1 # cylynders is acceptable?

How much chili do we need to make?

serving judges only or is there also some kind of public tasting?

And most importantly....will Scott Fischer be there? cause I know Scott Fischer.
Troy

Is it really you Troy?
Yes in regards to the propane.
Serving judges only, plan is to have 4. Turn in is in styrofoam cups with lids and there will not be any public tasting.
That Scott Fischer guy will be there, hope to have 8 X 10 color glossys printed up to hand out. Better than winning a trophy!

Will be good to see you again.

Scott,
You said this cookoff was in the old fire hall...Do you have an address?? Not too familiar with the Fenton Area...Are they providing any tables, or do we need to provide everything? If we are using electricity, I am assuming we will just need to bring extension cords?

Any updates on the prize/payout structure-you said it was $500...What is the breakdown for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc (i.e. 1st place=$500, 2nd place=$0)?????? I am assuming the styrofoam turn in cups will be provided. Is there any communication going from the contest to the participants before the actual cook's meeting that morning?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Jason,
Just bring your stuff and show up!, just kidding.
Yes, bring your own table and extension cords, they are providing the turn in cups.
There is no info to pass out prior to the cooks meeting at 10:30. Basically the rules are no pre-cooking of anything until I say its time to cook at 11:00 am.
I don't know what the prize break down is but will find out and post it.
Also, they don't use that firehall anymore so I'm going to have to make some calls and see what the actual address is.

That is a good cash prize.

I entered a friendly chili comp at work and my brisket chili lost to a white chicken chili. I almost jumped off of the roof!

I have to work on Saturday morning. I don't have a set schedule of weekends I have to work but the last four events have all landed on those days.

I have to work again on 1/16/2010 so that will probably be the next event. ;)

Plus I have only made chili twice and one of those times it was not even good enough to bring in to work.
