View Full Version : GLBBQA Annual Meeting

The GLBBQA Annual Meeting will be held March 31st at The Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. We will start the meeting at 10:00am, break for lunch and then start back up at around 1:00pm. Final schedule has not been finalized yet.
We are again offering any of the organizers a chance to come up and network and brainstorm with their fellow organizers in the Organizers Roundtable.
We will also have a GLBBQA BOD meeting and also vote on our one opening on the BOD.
The Casino has given us a discount on rooms, our price is $139.00 (normally they are $159.00) you have to reserve your room by March 9th to receive the discount. You can call the Casino direct at 1-888-7 eagle-7 to reserve you room, tell them you are with The Great Lakes BBQ Association.
We will plan on having dinner somewhere in Mt Pleasant and of course the night will be free to have fun.
I hope to see a good turn out!!

And just to clarify, we know the rooms are pricey, however if you have never been there they are very nice (I know you are only sleeping there) but if you dont want to stay there, there are a lot of options available in Mt Pleasant. If you can swing it I would love to see a lot a people stay at the Casino, we had a good time last year at the Casino night club!!

Ok, group, the association has rented the conference room at the Soaring Eagle Casino again this year and from the original post Mike made you can see there are also room discounts.
Who is coming? Who is staying?
The day is Saturday, the date is March 31.

The Mid Atlantic BBQ Association annual meeting is this weekend - Saturday March 3rd in Bel Air Maryland.

i dont know what a fetter is but i would assume somebody on the BOD would have time to make a few phone calls. With what were sitting on in the bank, not sure why we cant pony up for a nice smoker?
I agree its not about the prizes but when you choose an obscure place to have a meeting that none of our new members can take the time to go to, prizes are all you got to hopefully attract?
Remember, Brighton is the center of the state. :p
I'll be there, not sure if im stayin or not, depends on Mike and Tracy if Cindy may come.

I know it shouldn't be but it is a great marketing tool for increasing participation. KCBS raffles off several comp entries and people talk about it all year.

Just to clarify, the reason for the choice of Mt Pleasant is that it might actually draw some people there with the Casino and it is almost literally in the middle of the state (St Louis is the geographic center) so it is easy for most folks to get there.
As a BOD a few years ago (when Dale was on the BOD) it was decided that the Annual Meeting would be arranged by the President. With that being said, I made the arrangements with the Soaring Eagle, and I am working on getting door prizes/raffle prizes. I have to date gotten the following:
An autographed copy of Myron Mixon's latest book
A set of knifes from Mad Cow Cutlery
A donation from Great Lakes BBQ Supply
I am hoping for more items and if any of our members would like to donate or spend a few minutes soliciting folks for donations/raffle prizes that would be greatly appreciated.
We have also invited all of the Michigan Organizers to attend the organizers roundtable (except for GR, I dont have John Bates contact info, please help me with that) during the 1st part of the meeting. Once I get some confirmations I will have a full agenda. If there is something that you would like to see/hear please let us know and I will try and make it happen...

The Mayor and I will not be able to attend. Previously scheduled event takes the day out of play. March and April is when Jeni, the dentist to be, plays college softball. This is the last year, so we have committed to being at as many games as possible. Year to date we are over 3000 miles, and the season begins in ernest this weekend. Pencil us in for next year..

Not sure what I am clarifying here but yes - Organizers Roundtable at 10:00am (I encourage all members to attend, this is a great time to interact with the organizers). We will break around noon for lunch, and then start the annual meeting at 1:00pm. We will be posting an agenda for the Annual Meeting by Wednesday night Thursday morning.
Our posts seem to stray and get lengthy from time to time, I have had 2 members ask me what parts of the meeting start at what time. One post indicated the meeting starts at 10am, will break for lunch and then resume at 1pm. Some are not interested in attending the round table discussion and did not want to arrive too early. Thank you for the clarification.
