Has the GLBBQA BoD considered using an electronic voting service to increase the voting turnout?
KCBS and CBBQA use ElectionsOnline.us (http://www.electionsonline.us/index.cfm) and thought the process last year with KCBS it went quite smooth.

We have thought about this, there are actually free services available.... We will discuss at an upcoming BOD meeting, but I think there has been reasons for not using electronic voting...

That electronic stuff just makes it too hard to control who you can con into voting for you.
By having it in person, you can buy some people some beers and get their votes.

The way to get more than 10 total votes is for more people to become involved with the GLBBQA and attend the Annual Meeting...
The only organization that I belong to that I can vote electronically for is the KCBS. I cant electronically vote for the VFW, or NBBQA or my Credit Union, I have to attend the Annual Meeting...

I think the VFW is all local, but I would bet your credit union and NBBQA both have a problem with low voter turnout.
Some folks just don't have the time to go to the annual meeting for whatever reason. For me it works since it is a Saturday meeting, but I rarely have time to vote in govt elections since they are during the week.
Providing an easier way for members to vote may increase participation since they will feel involved in the process.

Credit Union draws about 1500 members out of 5000 annually, VFW is for the most part local but I still take the time to attend and vote. Government elections the polls are open until 8:00pm... I cant speak for the NBBQA...
IF folks wanted to become more involved it is a Saturday meeting and is usually at a location that would draw folks there in the first place. IF we had membership demographics where it would be more advantageous to have electronic voting I think it would be a valuable tool. The option is there for all to become involved, it is their choice if they want to become involved. I have other feelings on this but I will save them for a private conversation...

It takes a lot of commitment and resources to make a several hour round trip including possible hotel stays.
Don't get me wrong, I think the annual meeting is worth the effort. I just would like to see all the members vote for who they want on the BoD vs the handful of members that can make that level of commitment.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but with electronic voting in KCBS and mail-in ballots in Teamster elections you still get less than 25% of eligable voters. Now if we can figure out a cure for apathy .....

One thing to remember is that one of the purposes of the annual meeting is to get the membership together, including those who do not participate in competition bbq which other than the winter get together is the only other time this occurs. The election is just one item on the agenda and a good way to maybe tip the scales for those who don't really know if they want to attend or not. We just want to see everone's pretty faces!
