Just got this email from Dave Waun, they are scheduled to cook on June 5 at Selfridge AFB. Please direct your P.M.'s to me that I can relay on to Dave so we can keep accurate track of who can participate.
Thanks.

Hello Everyone,
I again am writing to you to ask for your help.

We will be having another Michigan "BBQ for our Troops" event at Selfridge Air Force Base, just north of Detroit, Sunday June 5th around noon. We will be feeding 1,600+ National Guard Airmen, Marines, Army, Coast Guard and other branches stationed at this Base.

I am hoping those of you that have smokers will be in a position to help cook for this event. We are expecting to feed more than we did at Ft Custer last year, and this will be for the Soldiers only, no Families will be present.

I am hoping the Great Lakes BBQ Association will take this on and be a Sponsor. Your name could be the top sponsor of this event.

My Family had a fundraiser and raised a big portion of the money we'll need, and I am working on getting other donations.

We will need more Smokers than we had at Ft Custer, so I'm hoping you will pass the word.

Thank you in advance,
David

Not sure if we can make this work but with the Armada contest being that Friday and
Saturday, wonder if there is a way to cook extra or get the leftovers from everyone
to help with the amount of food Dave will need prepared.
Mike says I am geographically challenged among other things, but I think Armada is
fairly close to Selfridge AFB and we could get food over there Saturday after the contest.
Thoughts anyone??

31 min due south, 23 miles.

Scott, cook two nights in a row. I'll be in Chicago sat at the Sam's club comp. I may have to see how this works out. Collecting all the leftover pork and brisket would not be a bad idea. You would need to get with Dave as far as an estimate. I'm sure he would appreciate it.

I did two bbq for the troops last year, and I can tell you, the experience will be one of the greatest rewards that you will ever receive in bbq.

Guys, PLEASE don't send Dave Waun emails direct., PLEASE PM me with any suggestions or info, it gets way to overwhelming trying to keep track of things. I am in direct contact
with him and am keeping him posted on what part the GLBBQA and its members can do to help this effort out.
He is letting me know what specific amount of smokers and people he has available as of now and an estimate on
food amounts is being done. I will keep you all posted as I get the info but again, PLEASE DO NOT contact him directly,
just PM me if you can contribute in any way.

THanks
SCott

Cory, thanks, will keep you posted.
Here is some more info I got from Dave today:
I will have an Army of volunteers there to help on Sunday morning like in Battle Creek, but I also have volunteers willing to work through Saturday night if they are needed.

I have cooked in Competitions, and know how tired everyone is Saturday late afternoon and night. But if the cookers were only 25 miles away, do you think some of them would be in a position to come on the base with their smokers, and sleep through the night??? There will be more "experienced" help there than just myself, and we could prep/fill/and monitor the smokers through the night. I assure you we would treat the cookers like we owned them. Then in the morning, after the Comp folks got their rest, they could assist in final preparations, and help serve our Soldiers. The Base and Soldiers we serve will be doubly honored knowing the extra effort made by those Competition Folks! Plus they will know they are getting the best BBQ made by the best BBQ Cooks in Michigan,

Please let me know if that could be an option for the folks at the Competition. No matter how it plays out, I hope everyone possible in the GLBBQA will be there Sunday for Lunch to thank those who put their lives in danger for us.

I will be there. Scott where can we get the forms to get approved to go on base? If we already did this before do we have to do it again? I'm going to find someone to help me so they will need forms as well.

Thanks

Thank you all for your enthusiasm for such a great cause. As of now, there are no specifics available, remember we are dealing with the military and they will not disclose any specifics until the last moment.
The most important thing is for you to let me know FOR SURE that you will be there and what pieces of cooking equipment you have and how much that piece of equipment will cook. I will then forward that onto Dave and as the date gets closer I will inform you as to what we really need to pull this off.

Thanks again,
Scott
