Dan,
love the idea, was just moving all my fishing gear around in the basement last weekend.
Deb and I will be in Myrtle Beach May 22-29 then the bbq month from hell starts in June.
I'll make every effort to attend if I am around.
Thanks for trying to organize another event, believe me, its greatly appreciated.

Dan,
We have that weekend open I believe. Can you give us more details here. I clicked on the link and probably didn't search enough to find all the info. Where would we cook at? When does the fishing take place, eating? Places to stay? Any info you can put here would be great.
Thanks

No problem, I wanted to see if there was any interest before typing all that stuff down two fingers at a time!
We will be at the Blossomland FOP 100 in Benton Harbor Mi.
The event will begin early afternoon on friday May 20th and end about the same time on sunday the 22nd. Some captains will be available for a friday morning or evening trip as well as a saturday morning trip. Some folks even get a sunday morning trip. It just depends on the weather and the conditions and schedules of those who participate. These captains are my very good friends, and they are awesome fishermen with nice boats.I am trying to make this event bigger and more organized than last years event. Not that last years event wasn't grand in itself. TQJ sponsored it for me last year with financial donations to help offset the costs involved. It is my hope to have less costs, and to donate the profit to the West Michigan Cancer Center here in Kalamazoo. That is the group of Doctors and staff that have been helping me beat this Cancer.
We will have many BBQ folks there to cook for the captains and crews, some musical entertainment, raffles, and a rib cooking competition. I would truly love to get some folks from the GLBBQA involved and out fishing for trout and salmon. It is an experience you'll never forget. I take it for granted because I have done it for 30+ yrs.
As we get closer to the date, I will post a sign-up thread, and more info. The lodge is ours for the weekend. It has a full service kitchen, a bar, TV and lounge area, big outside area for cooking and camping (no RV hook-ups) and its right on the banks of the St Joseph river.
The link I posted has some great pics and threads from people who came and enjoyed the weekend.
Its going to be quite the party :D.
You see I just found out this tuesday that after 2 yrs. I have beaten this stage 4 Cancer.:) Power of prayer my friends, and good herbal medicine.;)
Thanks for asking Shane, hope to see you there.

Used to salmon fish every year up in Tawas, can't be some good smoked salmon,
extra sharp cheddar cheese on a Ritz!!

I would like to bring one or two home but it don't matter if I catch them. :)
Is the rib cook going to be in the morning or afternoon? I guess that really determines if I go fishing or not.

@ $4 a glass, I can handle it!:D
Rich I am planning to have the rib turn in at 7 pm, so those that fish can get back and start cooking by 12:30-1 pm. I can get you on a boat, or I can get you a couple salmon donated, either way it would be great to have you be a part of this.:)

I doubt it. She was a big help last year, but this year our youngest son has shoulder surgery on friday, and I doubt the mother hen will leave the house untill the baby bird gives the OK. Oh and yeah, he is 20 yrs old.
I need to know if anyone from here is cooking ribs in the contest. I want to make sure I get enough, but not have allot of extra ribs.;)
Mark, I hope you and the Mrs. can make it. let me know if you want to be a rib judge.

I'll think about you all when I'm out on the pier in Myrtle Beach shark fishing. Seriously, have a great time!

It looks like we charged $20 per person last year, and I think we can stay with that number this year too. I believe for additional family members it was $10 per adult and $5 for kids under 16.

What a great weekend, and awesome time. Justin and I really enjoyed every part of it.I am very proud to see him get involved and make good friends with my friends. That being said, I would like to start this new thread with Thanks.
Thanks to everyone who came to the event.I appreciate everyone spending some time with me and my friends. Learning to Que, or listening to fishing talk, or just making new friends. God blessed us with some very nice days and weather for this event. We had a few hrs of drizzle and sprinkles on saturday afternoon, but it was tolerable and not too cold.
Thanks to all that worked so hard on this event. Many of you were at last years party and I appreciate your return and you bringing other good people with you. I will get to the personal thank you's in a few days.
OK, we want some pics.

The FOP 100 is a great place to have a party. Plenty of room, clean restrooms and area, and wonderful scenery.
FIJI mentioned food on friday afternoon, this is my buddy Phil's tailgate cooker. If this don't make a vegan mad................
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff55/Captspanky/F4BBQ3.jpg
Another good friend of mine brought his wife Jacki and his too dogs Duke and Levi. This is Travis. He's a great friend and a ton of fun. Not too shabby of a cook either.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff55/Captspanky/F4BBQ2.jpg
This is my darling friend Barb Wasson admiring her man's handiwork. This wonderful creation was built by her hubby Jerry, and they both donated it to the event as a raffle prize with hopes to make some money for a great charity and cause. Both Barb and Jerry have always been outstanding friends to me and my family, and a wonderful team to have as volunteers.....for anything.Damned good people. They are also great cooks, and accomplished Q chefs.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff55/Captspanky/F4BBQ5.jpg
I have so many pics and things to say, I will do this in parts. Please feel free to add your pics too. I will list the results to the rib contest, the raffle prize winners, and report on other aspects of this event. I will try to complete it by the end of the night.

Thanks also go out to The great lakes BBQ supply store. They donated a very nice box of rubs and sauces for the raffle table. We had an awesome raffle table and the prizes were well received by the 30+ folks who bought tickets.
Thanks Mike. Your donation helped us surpass our goal of $500 dollars for the West Michigan cancer Center. We actually will be sending in a check for $830.
Thanks to all who came and played. I will post pics later on today again, but I just want to say
RICH PARKER did a great job with his ribs.He did them on my smoker(so that explains it) with a new rub to him, and none of his usual stuff that he has. So that says a lot about his abilities. He won the RIB KING trophy, and Phil W. won by a landslide in the peoples choice category and has his peoples choice trophy.
In the judged entries we had
Rich Parker...............................230.2858
Smokin Tim and Tommy.............223.9998
Phil W......................................220.5714
Barb and Jerry..........................217.7142
Brian Jones..............................213.7142
Johns Sigler.............................210.2858
Mark Crawford .........................210.2858
Bruce......................................209.142 6
In the peoples choice part, we had
Phil W.........................................9 votes
Rich P and Joneser tied w............5 votes
Barb and Jerry with......................4 votes
Mark C and Smokin Tim................3 votes
John Sigler..................................2 votes
Bruce.........................................1 vote
Feel free to add pics guys, I'll do so later.
Congrats to the winners and to all who gave it their best try.;)

Dan, great to see you had a great turn out, and an even better fund raiser.
Sorry, I couldn't make it. Work schedule has been grueling. I seriously don't know whether I'm coming or going, or meeting my self half way there.
Work has been 12 to 14 hrs, 10 hrs off, return for another 12 to 14, 10 off. When you get to 60, take 34 off and start all over.
Summer plans are hard to make and keep right now. Luckily I took vac for next week.
