I have been thinking about judging (thinking this is the best way to taste a lot of good que) and did a search on the KCBS web site for classes. I found that there is a judging class being held on September 10th at 5:30 pm in Mears, MI. I have submitted my cash and forms, so I hope to see some of you at Silver Lake.
Here is some information I received from Jeff Clark at the Sands restaurant.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes Championship BBQ Judging Class
KCBS Judging Class Thursday, September 10, 2009
We’ll host a KCBS judging class here in Mears, Michigan on September 10th.
Our instructors will be Mike and Theresa Lake from Shannon Illinois.
Mike and Theresa host the Shannon Illinois BUTT to BUTT competition each July and are widely known
in the competition BBQ circles. Mike is a well known competitor on the KCBS circuit with many top
scores to his credit. In addition, Mike is one of the most experienced instructors available. Mike and
Theresa know BBQ and will help your cooking and scoring in many ways. Plus, we guarantee you will
enjoy the evening.
You will receive instruction in KCBS scoring, procedures, allowed and disallowed display techniques,
2009 new rules and actually score competition entries in all four KCBS categories. After scoring each
meat, scores will be discussed and you’ll receive feed back that will help you to more systematically
score entries. If you are a new competitor, you’ll get some real insights into what constitutes a winning
entry in the judges’ eyes.
If you want to judge KCBS Contests or just learn how to improve your own cooking or competition
entries, this class is for YOU!
KCBS Certification Class cost is:
Current KCBS Members $40.00 CBS Judges Certification Fee
Non KCBS Members $75 KCBS Certification Fee
Non-KCBS members completing the class will receive one year membership in the KCBS and a one year
subscription to the “Bullsheet..” the monthly KCBS newspaper. (Included in the class fee.)
Registration will begin at 5:30pm and class will begin at 6 p.m. The class will be completed at 9:30pm
depending on the questions from the participants. Come hungry, ‘cause once we start the actual scoring
demos, you’ll get plenty to eat. The class will be held in the Golden Township Hall 5527 W Fox Rd,
Mears, MI. (Just east of the 4 way stop in Downtown Mears)
