I should have kept my mouth shut, but I didn't.
There's a couple of guys here at the office that enjoy good pulled pork (and who doesn't really?) Anyway, through talk at the water cooler I happened to mention that I'd be firing up The Green Monster next weekend and doin' a few shoulders for myself. One guy asked me if I'd do one for him, then another for him, and another, and another.
Now, I'm up to 17 shoulders not including what I wanted to do for myself .

And, there's several people that wanted me to do ribs for them, too, but I turned them down.
Even sent one guy I didn't like to Bubba.

I'll post pictures after it happens.

I know guys get good money just smoking up butts and selling them whole.
Oh, and good idea about the guy you didn't like. Now Bubba does have a friend.

Officially, yes I'm doing it as a favor. I'm only asking to be reimbursed the price of the butt and the spice rub.

But, I use a really expensive rub, and due to the swine flu, the price of pork has gone through the roof!

I'm up to 21, and have enlisted the help of a friend who is bringing over about 6 of his own. Plus, a few for myself brings the total so far to 30.

Thats a lot of shoulders Scott, next time I would triple your costs for your friends.

You have to pay for your time, wood, fuel ect.

Good luck and post some photos if you have time.

One good thing even though you aren't getting paid for it is the experience of cooking such a large amount of product plus you could always try stuff out that you may not do if you had paid for it.

I'm not too worried about the work, it's the alcohol poisoning I'm worried about.
(BTW Unofficially, I will be coming out on the plu$ side of things)

Early look at the weather says it's supposed to be 90*.

Let's see.....
Margarita's?
Vodka tonics?
Long Islands? ....oooh...no not those.
Beer? (not the Lincoln Poodle stuff Mike drinks though)

Decisions, decisions...
I'll figure something out.

And, I'm up to 34 now.

If it isn't pronouncable, it shouldn't be drinkable.

Yes, a taste test with two exceptionable palat's of exquisite taste. Heck, Mike would drink anything with a fancy label and name attached to it!!

Well, it happened. And note to self...never do it again.
Of if I do, I'll at least do a couple of things different:
1. Start earlier than 8 a.m.
2. Compensate cooking times - Adding 300# of pork means the cooker's going to take a little longer to come back up to temp.
3. If it's 95* out, drink at least some water.
4. If Johnny Walker (I call him Blackie), Ron Bacardi, Pyotr Smirnov, and John Labatt show up to help, don't feed them home made cherry wine, Bloody Mary's, vodka tonics, rum & cokes, whiskey on the rocks, or Mad Hatter IPA's. They don't mix. Things get fuzzy and not as efficient as they were before they came to the party.
5. Drink at least some w-a-t-e-r. And, the ice cubes in the Bloody Mary's, vodka tonics, rum & cokes, whiskey on the rocks don't count.
6. Make sure I have some help for the day after, too.
7. Make sure I have enough fridge/freezer space for 36 cooked shoulders and 4 racks of spares. If I didn't before they were cooked, I probably won't after either.
8. Make sure my drippings bucket doesn't runnith over (while entertaining the above mentioned guests on the front porch). Pressure washing it off the driveway and the lingering smell in the summer heat isn't something I want to have to deal with again. The neighbors were not impressed with the smell, but the dog had a field day.
9. Drink at least some water.

Other than that, I think things went pretty well.
Enjoy the pics.
