Jules,
Not to change the subject, but I will anyways. When I was younger, my parents and I would meet our relatives, who all live in Canada, and go to Belle River to a bar/restaurant that served all you can eat perch. I can't remember the name of the place though...do you have any idea what it might be?
Thanks, now back to the discussion on whole hog.

Well. That all depends how long ago that was. Most restaurants / bars in this town have turned into something else. If you could get me a year I could inquire.

Not a big deal Jules...I think it was "something Boy or Buoy" and this had to be 30-40 years ago. It was great perch though!!!

That does sound like fun. Does the pig have to be cooked whole?

everything always falls on the same weekends..... i have my annual spring camp trip the very same weekend or i would be up for a whole hog deal. i was just watching some video during lunch yesterday on whole hog comps. cant remember the comp name, but seperating the back half from the front was legal for that one. but had to all stay together otherwise. ( think it was the slabs bbq team )

ok..... how about any restrictions with foods going across the borders? spices, rubs, injections and such that may or may not be in original containers. and how about taking wood products across borders? and any restrictions with cooking equipment and such???? im sure everyone on this side of the river would like to know this kind of stuff ahead of time. :)

As far as I know. (not much they say) When I crossed over in November to Go to a comp in Georgia They asked What I had for meat and wanted to look inside the trailer. Just tell them where you are going and should be no Problems at all. They'll ask you what your cooking.

Tom, I would bet you cannot take wood across the border, heck you cant take it into Ohio. In regards to meat, If I recall correctly after talking to Diva Q at the class, meat can come over in its original packaging, not sure how you have a whole hog originally packaged. Maybe you could arrange with the event to have them get you one that you pick up over the border. Just make sure you pack the equipment so that it can be searched thru easily. don't think rubs and sauces are a problem.

looks like the event provides the whole hog. so meat is not problem. once we have all the details, i think i will do this one. the on site judging may be a bit scary as i am not the most personable person around. but i fake it for 12 min for sure.
