I received an email today from the folks in Charlevoix. They are in the finishing stages for a 1 day "Rib Burn" over the 4th of July weekend. They have not settled on a actual day yet but it will be that weekend. Nothing further finalized but I wanted to post the event as that is a busy weekend and contests are beginning to overlap and teams are being put into positions of having to make choices in regards to contests they may be participating in. :)

Hi Everybody,
We've been busy planning this event and are in the final stages. This is going to be a one day "rib burn" and will take place in downtown Charlevoix's beautiful East Park. Prize money will be 1st place: $1,000, 2nd Place: $500, and third place $250. I am trying to get a feel of how many people are interested in participating. If you have interest please contact me (Bethany) either by replying to this forum, e-mailing me at manager@charlevoix.org, or calling the Chamber offices at 231.547.2101.

What's the entry fee?

What's the entry fee?
There will be two different entrance fees:
If you would just like to participate in the contest (not selling food/merchandise to the public, only preparing ribs for the judges) the entrance fee will be $100
If you would like to participate in both the contest and would like to sell the the public food and or merchandise (you keep 100% of the profits) the entrance fee is $150.
We are expecting 500 people (conservatively) at this event, similar events in Charlevoix have brought in thousands of people.

Besides the regulations, you should probably be carrying some liability insurance.

You will need a one day temporary food license, I'm meeting with the Health Department next week, I will let you know what else you will need (if anything) then.

Hey all,
Bethany and her group are working really hard at making this a quality first year event. The entry fees are very reasonable and the payouts really good also. Anyone who can that weekend should give it a try.
Thanks
Scott

Got a little more info from the Charlevoix Chamber. They have secured several KCBS CBJ's to judge the event. They also have arranged for discounted lodging and will be including a lodging brochure with the event application. Again, first place is paying
out $1000.00 and the entry fee is $100.00.

Bumping this one up, the Charlevoix Chamber has contacted me again and said they have not received any entries yet.
They would like to know if anyone is considering the contest so they can figure out if they need to cancel it or not.
If you think you may go, please post and let me know.

The application has a May 28 deadline on it which obviously we can have changed, they are just really scared no one will participate and some of the board would like to see some apps's coming in. I'll email her and let her know we do have some interest here but no one can commit as of right now.
Thanks

A trip to Charlevoix and then a trip to the U.P. 2 weeks later is a little too rich for my gas budget.
