My wife just sent me a message saying that an Ann Arbor restaurant made the top 10 bbq restaurants from Bon Appetit Magazine.
Zingerman's Roadhouse (http://www.zingermansroadhouse.com/)
I just looked at their menu and see that I could pay $29 for a rack of ribs or $19 could get me pit smoked brisket.
People pay these prices?? I must be a cheap azz....

Can't speak for there BBQ, But everything else I have had there was really good. A friend of mine's sister works there and brings over all kinds of breads and such. Great stuff, but for there BBq...I wouldn't pay those kinda prices, not even just to taste it.

Looking at the menu I can,t believe that folks would pay that much ( 9 bucks for a bowl of soup 13 for a hamburger ) I,m speechless what a waste of money think of how much food you could cook or bbq for those prices.
there must be alot of saps out there to pay those prices

There has to be for them to survive.
I remember one time my wife's work paid for her department of 4 people and their spouse's to an evening out at the 1913 room here in Grand Rapids. I ordered a lobster tail and 8 oz steak for $60. It was the smallest lobster tail and smallest 8 oz steak I have ever seen in my life....I swung through Arby's on the way home. I had more beef on my Arby's sandwich...
The only answer I have is it must be like that old saying "Keeping up with the Joneses" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_up_with_the_Joneses).

Being from the Ann Arbor area, I can say "Been there. Done that.......Not worth it."
It's good, don't get me wrong. But you guys hit the nail on the head. It's just too expensive. I've also been told (on more than one occasion) that my ribs were better than theirs. And, I only have a fraction of the experience that most of you farkers have. I've tasted some of your ribs, and their better than mine.
I will say though, that Zingermann's Deli in downtown Ann Arbor is pretty good, too. Like the Roadhouse, their sandwiches are pretty expensive, but you can easily feed two people with one. And, they also have gourmet cheeses, olives, etc....if you're into that sort of thing.
That's my opinion, worth price charged.
Ditto on that crossczek. Living in Ypsi, I've eaten at the deli a few times - expensive but huge and yummy. Tried the bbq after reading the magazine article. I was not overly impressed. I appreciate what they are trying to do - with homemade breads, cheeses, lots of high quality ingredients, etc. but the price was not worth the final product that was on the plate.
It's a good place to go IF you are the type of person that likes to brag about eating at places like it...but if you are looking for great bbq that is reasonably priced, it would be better to look somewhere else.

I work at UM north campus and our work group decided to go there for lunch after it first opened. We were sat and opened the menu and my jaw just dropped. We collectivly decided to go elsewhere. We recently went to the Blue Tractor downtown A2 and I was not impressed. Prices ok but the PP sandwich was forgetable. No one else raved about what they had either.

No, you just know good bbq when you taste it. You've been to the other side, and liked it.

Friend of mine told me he had some pretty good Q in Milan. I think he said it was called Ray's or Roy's, something like that. Do you know of it?
Been down to Milan numerous times, but never ate there. Let us know how the que is if you get down there.

It's Roy's.
You guys aren't going to believe this, but ...No, I haven't been there and it's about 4 blocks from my house at the corner of Wabash and Main. The thing is, I always knew it was there but I didn't really have an interest in BBQ until a couple of years ago. And then, I wanted to do it myself.
I will have to say though, I've never seen or smelled smoke coming from there.
It does have a good reputation around town and it's been there for at least 20 years.
I'll head there next week and give it a try and report back.
...the things I do for you guys ...geeesh.
