I hate to say it, but the "stop groping me" crowd will be the same people clamoring for more security if and when the next incident happens aboard a plane. The procedure is no different than what any police officer would do before they would put you in their patrol vehicle for their own safety.
Don't want to go through the imaging machine that's fine, they will search you then, don't like that....then don't fly. I get sick and tired of this Big Brother is taking my rights away from me chant we hear all the time.
People know what the procedure is long before they get to the airport...you live in a free country where you can make choices.... to fly or not to fly...to go or not to go.
Off the soap box now.

Fine and dandy if you do it once every 6 months or so. Try going through the procedure 9-15 times a month................
No thx

Geoff,
I agree, they need to institute a program similar to what they have at border crossings, where you can get an enhanced license, or some type of frequent flyer paperwork, background checks, whatever, so those. law abiding citizens can pass through security somewhat easier. Like if you can demonstrate that you fly "X" number of times per year, a criminal history check, SOMETHING so that those who do fly frequently can do so with relative ease at check in.
I don't know what the solution is, however, as a very infrequent flyer it's not something that bothers me terribly.

I have this nice letter from the TSA, that I'm required to carry with me, while I'm at work. I have even been asked for it by a Michigan State Police officer once, while doing a Hazardous Material carrier training inspection. Every four years Im required to submit myself for fingerprinting, and a federal background check. Once I receive this "letter" from the TSA then I can renew my drivers license. This all came about after 911. The government thinks that terrorist may "hijack" hazardous material carriers for use as bombs for whatever.
Is it a pain in the a(s? yes. But doing my share, doesn't bother me. The company picks up the tab for it, pays your wages while you are driving to the collection point, and pays your mileage to and fro.
I've been patted down before, had FBI background checks before, just so that I could gain entry in the Federal Prison System, always glad I could leave those.
We have a company we deliver to, that we deliver to all the time. Same procedure all the time.
Pull up to the gate, stop, shut off engine, open hood, leave doors open, step away.
Your greeted by two security officers, one with a ground mirror and a 9mm gun, another with a German Shepard and a gun. Always the same guys.
Look over truck, check manifest, check driver credentials and clearance, empty pockets, use a wand over you, if that's not good, a quick pat down.
Escort into plant, being watched by armed guard during delivery, escort to the gate. return credentials and paperwork, general search and walk around of vehicle and driver, and OK to leave.
Ya it's a pita but after the third or forth time it doesn't matter, you get used to it. That and you can see there point, you wouldn't want anything going wrong at this place, it could be bad, real bad for a lot of people.
Just another day a work.:)

The 4th amendment to the US Constitution guards against unreasonable searches. Being groped at an airport just because you want to go somewhere by plane constitutes unreasonable.
Inaddition, if I did that to my wife, or anyone else in the open at an airport, mall, etc, that would be a felony and I would lose my job and go to prison without passing Go.

They already have that but not every airport is a participant in the program...
The issue is not with the frequent flyers, it is with the occasional flyer. To this day I still get behind the one person in the world who does not know they have to take their shoes off and they cannot go through security with more than 3 oz of liquid, even though it is posted every 5 feet at every airport in the country, and this invariably slows down the entire group.
Like you I personally dont care, maybe it is due to my time in the military I dont know. But I also can see the other side of the coin.
I am flying for Christmas so we will see how that plays out

I just read an article on mlive where a women in Grand Rapids was told to step aside because she was wearing a skirt for an "additional" pat down. She said during the pat down the women hit her so hard in the groin it lifter her off of the ground and made her yelp. The TSA reviewed the footage and said everything was fine. That b**ch would have had been punched in the eye, and i would be in jail if they did that to my wife.
The TSA has always been the worst part about flying. About 6 years ago, i had a TSA worker demand that i remove my shoes and unbuckle my belt and lower my pants enough for them to check my waistband and trunk. They did this in the middle of the airport in Cincinnati and had my wife extremely embarrassed. I thought it was pretty comical because i got to moon the whole airport but the wife wasn't thrilled.
I don't have a problem with machines checking me to see if i am hiding things but the pat downs are ridiculous.
I couldn't imagine going through that 9 - 15 times a month.

I feel this is just the start to what is coming. How do you fight an enemy that does not care about quality of life? Some "bombers" (Saudi Arabia bombing) have placed the exposive material in body cavities. This cannot be dectected by a pat down or the xray machine. I would love to think we could stop the "bombers" but as they go to extremes to accomphish their tasks for Allah, we can only slow it down. The pat down might be obstrusive but if it stopped one bomber, I would consider it worth it. I might fly just for the ceremonial pat down. LOL. Might be the best action I have seen in a while. I wish there was a sensible answer for all of this but when we are fighting unsensible people I wouldn't expect anything different.

That's my thinking. I havent had to go through this yet due to the fact I'm on vacation. But when in uniform, and told I'm going to get patted down.......
off comes the shoes, shirt, pants, and anything else while in line and in front of all.
The thing is, what's next after groping, using a a finger to check "where it dont shine"

Considering that bombers are placing the bombs in body cavities, you might not be too far off!

Another happy customer of the TSA.
A bladder cancer survivor traveling to Orlando, Fla., was left humiliated, upset and covered in his own urine on Nov. 7 after a TSA pat-down went awry at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, MSNBC.com reports.
Thomas D. Sawyer, of Lansing, must wear a urostomy bag that is sealed to a stoma from his stomach via a wafer as a result of his condition.
On the day he traveled, Sawyer was flagged for a pat-down. After making multiple requests for a private screening, TSA agents took him to an office to do the pat-down. Despite warning the agents of his condition, the seal to Sawyer's urostomy bag was broken during the procedure, leaving him covered in urine. Sawyer says the agents didn't apologize for what had happened and that they didn't offer to assist him in any way.
Sawyer says he is appalled that the TSA agents have such little concern for people with medical conditions and that he plans to file a formal complaint.

In reality the problem with this whole mess is the programs they are implementing here are not being put in place in other countries. How many of the recent events that have caused the recent increase in security measures actually started in the U.S. ?

I've never flown there, but from articles I have read, Israel is even more stringent than this.

Unbelievable! If we used El Al's (Israeli's National Airline) security measures, the ACLU would have a "field day". El Al has info on each and every pax that books a flight on any El Al flight. Kinda scary, but if ya dont have anything to hide, who gives a rat's patoot.............

Yep I can understand why there, they also do a quick psych eval on each passenger as well, by asking some very non-flight related questions...
