West Oakland Rib Cook Off and Family Fest, Your Whip Midwest Showdown and Mustang Memories Car Show, Sunday August 9

Novi: Hot and tasty summer family fun is on the menu for the first ever West Oakland Rib Cook Off and Family Fest, Sunday August 9 at the Rock Financial Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave in Novi. Presented in part by Labatt Blue and 99.5 WYCD, the Noon-7pm event will feature as many as twenty BBQ Rib Teams, live music from Whitey Morgan and the 78s and the Union Avenue Band, local restaurant tastings, a mechanical bull, rock climbing wall and family activities including a furry creature petting zoo. Admission for the West Oakland Rib Cook Off and Family Fest is $5.00, children five and under free.
Also on Sunday August 9, the Rock Financial Showplace welcomes the Mustang Memories All-Ford Car Show, featuring more than 500 Mustangs, and the Your Whip Midwest Showdown, a high performance automotive show offering 150,000 square feet of hot-rod heaven! Entry to any of the three events includes a discounted admission to the others.
“Over the past few weeks, interest in the Rib competition has really picked up,” says Mary Jane Scott, Director of Sales for the Rock Financial Showplace. “In the world of BBQ, $1500 plus prizes is a sizable first place purse, and contestants are really fired up about it. We are also getting a lot of interest from area restaurateurs who are eager for the bragging rights, as well as first-time local competitors who want to test their skills against seasoned teams. It’s going to be great fun for all!”
“Experience West Oakland”, a committee of the Novi Chamber of Commerce, was granted a sanction from the Memphis Barbeque Network for this inaugural event. A panel of twenty professional and amateur judges will determine the contest results. The Grand Prize Winner will be invited to compete in the “Memphis in May” Barbeque Network Finals, May 2010. Anyone can enter; cooking teams are welcome to register until the deadline of August 7.
