Travis,

I have the same dutch oven, You're in for a treat man.

But I love my Griswald better though, It's very seasoned.

If you need any help in the DO cooking area let me know.

Above is a link to a temperature chart for Lodge Dutch Ovens listing how many coals to use top and bottom to achieve a specific temperature. Good luck with you new DO.

Thanks for the link Bruce, bookmarked it! One thing that came up as I was reading the book they send with it was some of the recipes were listed for a 12" and 14" DO. How could I modify my cooking method to make those dishes in a 10" DO anyone know? Or is it as simple as cutting the ingredients back so it will fit in a 10". Its not like I dont have enuff recipes to try I was just wondering.

congrats on the new tool..... i have a 14in, 12in deep, and an 8in baby dutch. i dont really follow any recipies for the most part. i do stews at camp and stuff. pancakes on the lids etc. mine are typically in the campfire so i dont know about briquettes with them much, never really did that method. if it burns, then next time i dont use as many coals. i will often just toss it in the weber kettle and cook that way also.

We cook a desert that we got off the movie Steel Magnolias.

1 can Fruit ****tail, undrained
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 eggs
some baking powder and baking soda
Butter if you like? Vanilla if you like

We have made it with out the eggs and is still good. Not a real fussy dish.

Cook till bubble and brown on top.

No real pretty but tastes great.

Yes I believe that id you just reduce the ingredians so it will fit you will be good to go!

That store was pretty cool, Mike and I visited there last year when we went to the Jack to serve as honorable body guards for the Extreme Roasters. Mike bought some big as* pan to cook 267 pieces of chicken in.

It is in South Pittsburgh Tennessee, right near my families hometown. I actually have family that work for Lodge...

My skillet wont cook 267 pieces of chicken, maybe 200...

Travis, they sometime do that to prevent things from sticking to the inside, for example if you were making a cobbler or some other type dessert. It's more of a cleanup issue than anything else.

Looks like it worked pretty good. I can't say for sure.
But it sure looked good................after freezing all night with very little sleep!

Maybe those who had some of that tasty looking breakfast casserole can tell us how it tasted.

It was Great, Dan.. I had 2 helpings. Shame Travis didn't invite you and Geoff to breakfast.
All kidding aside, he felt really bad that he didn't extend a formal invite. He assumed you guys would be grubbing with us.

Thats how we met. I found him walking down this old country road with a dead, bleeding trout!

I said,"need a ride?", he said"yep".

"grab your fishing gear, and jump in", I replied

" aint got no gear", he said, "let's go!"

He sat there in the truck with that fish on his lap for the whole 2 hr ride home.

what a guy!;)

My first Dutch Oven made it's debut last weekend in the sides category. I was impressed and bought a bigger one yesterday along with a skillet, griddle, and a small something.

Ya know I hav been looking at getting a 12 DO as every single recipe that I have found is for 12" and it DOES make a difference, so I may have to splurge:confused:

I caught a Steelhead once, was Smelt dipping at the Singing Bridge, dipped and got one in my net. Of course being the law abiding individual I am I let it go. (right down inside my waders then up to the cooler in the trunk, had to move the beer around.)
