I had no idea there was such a BBQ presence in MI! I'm an import from the south and have been smoking my own Q for years because 1. I found it impossible to find a good southern style pulled pork sandwhich in these parts and 2. I love to cook BBQ (I call it my hobby that got out of control)
After eating great Q in VA growing up, it wasn't until I was in FL 10 or so years ago that I got the urge to make my own. Started on a cheap bullet type and progressed to bigger and bigger offsets. I moved here 4 years ago and began doing an annual pig roast. Bought a monster homemade tow behind offset 2 years ago and have been wanting to try my skills in a competition. I just bought the DPP Fat 50 that you may have seen listed on this forum so now have a rig I wont be embarrased of at a comp. Look forward to meeting some of you folks out there!

Welcome Ray....boy we have some things in common! Where in Florida did you move from? I moved here last year from Fort Walton Beach. Look forward to meeting you and cooking some que together possibly. That cooker you bought looks like a real good comp cooker. I saw it at Mt Morris the other weekend when i was up there to judge. I live off Lone Tree Road in Milford, how far away are you?

Welcome Ray!

No need to be embarrased, I cook on a couple of garbage cans. Hopefully, you can make it out to Silver Lake or Sparta.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I contacted Silver Lake and they are full, with the possibility of a cancellation this afternoon so I guess I'm on the reserve list. Where can I find a listing of comps?

Bill - I am on Mill St off GM Road across the street from Jonson Elementary. I moved there from Sarasota 4 years ago. Feel free to give me a shout 248 504 8717.

This will list all of the KCBS sanctioned Comps. Our forum and website will have most of the other non-sanctioned (rib burns and such) contests in the area...

Ray,
Welcome to the group!, you picked yourself up a nice unit if its the one Jason had for sale.
I live in Holly, not to far from you and shop at Colasanti's on Milford Road sometimes.
Give some serious thought to the Sparta contest, its the last sanctioned event in Michigan this year.
